Ingredients
-
3 large eggs, separated
-
1 cup granulated sugar
-
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
-
½ cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
-
¾ cup all-purpose flour
-
2 cups lukewarm milk
-
A pinch of salt
-
Powdered sugar (for dusting)
-
Whipped cream (optional topping)
Instructions
Step 1: Prep and Preheat
Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). Lightly grease a baking dish or individual ramekins.
Step 2: Make the Batter
-
In a large bowl, beat the egg yolks with sugar until pale and creamy.
-
Add melted butter and vanilla, and mix well.
-
Sift in the flour and a pinch of salt, and stir to combine.
-
Slowly add the warm milk while whisking until the mixture is smooth.
Step 3: Beat the Egg Whites
-
In a clean bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
-
Gently fold the egg whites into the batter in three parts. The batter will be slightly lumpy and runny—this is normal.
Step 4: Bake
-
Pour the batter into your prepared dish.
-
Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is just set.
-
Let cool, then refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
Dust with powdered sugar and top with whipped cream if desired. Serve chilled or slightly warm.
Tips for Success:
-
Use lukewarm milk to help the batter mix evenly.
-
Don’t overfold the egg whites—keeping some volume gives the dessert its airy lift.
