When I was little, my mom always made the best sausage gravy and we ate it with crackers for breakfast or sometimes she would add some potatoes to it.
Well, just thinking about it makes my mouth water.
This is a really easy and delicious sausage gravy on crackers recipe that your family will beg you to make again and again.
This recipe is a delicious breakfast, perfect for any time of year and any day of the week.
Serve with a side of eggs or even a salad to complete a complete lunch.
*Ingredients
1 pound breakfast sausage, hot or mild
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
3 to 4 cups whole milk, to taste
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper , to taste
12 baked biscuits, to serve hot
*Preparation:
Cut small sausages with your finger and place in a single layer in a large, heavy pan. Fry the sausage over medium heat until the pink color disappears. Reduce heat to medium-low. Dust with half the flour and stir until the sausage is absorbed, then gradually add more. Stir and cook for about a minute, then pour in the milk, stirring constantly.Cook the broth, stirring frequently, until thickened (this may take 10 to 12 minutes). Sprinkle with seasoned salt and pepper and continue cooking until thick and tasty. If it thickens too quickly, simply drizzle in another 1/2 cup of milk, more if needed. Taste and adjust seasoning.
Pour the sausage gravy over the hot crackers and serve immediately.This recipe can easily be doubled to serve 24 people.
