Homemade Artisan Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water

Instructions:

  1. Mix the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, and salt.
    • Add warm water and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
    • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and let it sit at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours.
  2. First Rise:
    • After the dough has rested, it should have risen and be bubbly.
    • Lightly flour a clean work surface and your hands. Turn the dough out onto the surface and fold it over on itself a few times.
    • Shape the dough into a ball.
  3. Second Rise:
    • Place the dough ball seam-side down on a piece of parchment paper.
    • Cover with a towel and let it rise for about 1 to 2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the Oven:
    • About 30 minutes before the dough is ready, preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
    • Place a Dutch oven or heavy pot (with the lid) in the oven to heat up.
  5. Bake the Bread:
    • Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven from the oven.
    • Use the parchment paper to lift the dough and place it in the hot pot.
    • Cover with the lid and bake for 30 minutes.
    • After 30 minutes, remove the lid and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and crusty.
  6. Cool and Serve:
    • Remove the bread from the pot and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
