Brigadeiros Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 can (14 oz or 395g) sweetened condensed milk
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Chocolate sprinkles, for rolling
Instructions
- Cook the Mixture:
- In a medium saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk, cocoa powder, and butter.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and starts to pull away from the sides and bottom of the pan. This usually takes about 10-15 minutes. The mixture should be thick enough that you can see the bottom of the pan when you stir.
- Add Vanilla:
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Cool the Mixture:
- Transfer the mixture to a greased plate or bowl and let it cool to room temperature. You can also chill it in the refrigerator to speed up the process.
- Shape the Brigadeiros:
- Once the mixture is cool, grease your hands with a little butter to prevent sticking.
- Scoop out small portions of the mixture (about 1 teaspoon each) and roll them into balls.
- Coat with Sprinkles:
- Roll each ball in chocolate sprinkles until fully coated.
- Place the brigadeiros in mini paper liners for serving.
- Serve and Store:
- Serve the brigadeiros at room temperature. They can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Tips
- Consistency: Make sure to cook the mixture until it is thick enough to hold its shape; undercooking will make it difficult to form the balls.
- Variations: You can roll the brigadeiros in other coatings such as crushed nuts, shredded coconut, or powdered sugar for variety.
