Classic Pound Cake
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup whole milk
Instructions
- Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease and flour a bundt or tube pan.
- Cream Butter and Sugar:
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
- Add Eggs:
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Bake:
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool:
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Serve:
- Slice and serve the pound cake plain, or with your favorite toppings like fresh berries, whipped cream, or a simple glaze.
