Peppermint Chocolate Truffles are a delightful treat perfect for the holiday season or any special occasion. With their creamy ganache center, rich chocolate coating, and festive crushed peppermint topping, these truffles are both delicious and visually stunning. This easy recipe requires only five ingredients and a bit of patience, making it perfect for gifting or enjoying with loved ones.

Ingredients:

For the Truffle Filling:

  • 1 cup (227g) heavy whipping cream
  • 2 2/3 cups (454g) semi-sweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • 5 1/2 tablespoons (78g) unsalted butter, cubed and at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract

For the Chocolate Coating:

  • 1 1/3 cups (226g) semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 6 full-sized candy canes, finely crushed

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Truffle Filling:

  • Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan over low heat until it comes to a boil. Remove from heat immediately.
  • Add the chopped chocolate to the cream and let it sit for 2 minutes. Whisk until smooth.
  • Stir in the butter and peppermint extract. Mix vigorously until shiny and well incorporated.
  • Pour the mixture into a medium bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until firm enough to scoop.

2. Form the Truffles:

  • Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Scoop 2 teaspoons of the chilled truffle mixture and quickly roll it between your hands to form a ball. Place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
  • Chill the rolled truffles in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.

3. Prepare the Chocolate Coating:

  • Melt the chocolate using a double boiler or microwave in short intervals, stirring frequently to ensure smoothness.
  • Pour the melted chocolate into a bowl or measuring cup for easier dipping.

4. Dip and Decorate:

  • Remove the truffles from the refrigerator. Using a fork or dipping tool, coat each truffle in melted chocolate, letting the excess drip off before placing it back on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Immediately sprinkle the truffles with crushed candy canes while the coating is still wet.
  • Let the truffles sit at room temperature for about 1 hour or until the coating is fully set.

Conclusion:

Peppermint Chocolate Truffles are a luxurious and festive dessert that brings joy to any celebration. Their rich, creamy centers, paired with a crisp peppermint topping, make them the perfect combination of flavors and textures. Whether gifting to friends or enjoying at home, these truffles are sure to impress. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week and savor the magic of the holidays!
