Apple Fritters Recipe
Ingredients
- For the Fritters:
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup (60ml) milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup (about 2 medium apples) peeled, cored, and diced
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- For the Glaze (optional):
- 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Fritter Batter:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Fold in the diced apples.
- Heat the Oil:
- In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the Fritters:
- Carefully drop spoonfuls of batter (about 2 tablespoons each) into the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pan.
- Fry the fritters for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove the fritters with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Make the Glaze (optional):
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters, or dip the fritters into the glaze to coat.
- Serve:
- Serve the apple fritters warm. They are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated if needed.
Tips
- Apples: Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for a good balance of tartness and sweetness.
- Glaze: Adjust the consistency of the glaze by adding more milk for a thinner glaze or more powdered sugar for a thicker glaze.
