1 teaspoon cinnamon
 -
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
 -
2 tablespoons melted butter
 -
¼ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

¼ cup raisins (optional)
 -
1 teaspoon lemon juice

the Dough:
-
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
 -
1 egg (for egg wash)
 -
1 tablespoon milk

For the Glaze (Optional):
-
½ cup powdered sugar
 -
1–2 tablespoons milk
 -
½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Filling
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
 -
In a bowl, combine apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, melted butter, lemon juice, and optional walnuts/raisins. Stir well and set aside.

S 2: Prepare the Dough
-
Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle.
 -
Place the apple filling down the center of the pastry, leaving about 1.5 inches on each side.
 -
Cut diagonal strips on both sides of the pastry (about 1 inch wide each).
 -
Fold the strips over the apple filling in a crisscross pattern to create a braided look.

Step 3: Bake the Strudel
-
In a small bowl, whisk together egg and milk to create an egg wash. Brush it over the pastry for a golden finish.
 -
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
 -
Allow it to cool slightly before adding glaze.

S 4: Add the Glaze
-
In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
 -
Drizzle over the strudel and let it set before slicing.

Serving Suggestions
-
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
 -
Dust with powdered sugar for an extra touch.
 -
