Baked Beef Spaghetti

Ingredients:

  • For the Spaghetti:
    • 12 oz spaghetti
    • 1 lb ground beef
    • 1 small onion, finely chopped
    • 3 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
    • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
    • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
    • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
    • 1/2 cup ricotta or cottage cheese (optional)
    • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Spaghetti:
    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Beef Sauce:
    • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
    • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef, and sauté until the onion is soft and translucent.
    • Stir in the marinara sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Assemble the Spaghetti:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked spaghetti with the beef sauce.
    • If using ricotta or cottage cheese, mix it into the spaghetti mixture.
    • Pour half of the spaghetti mixture into the prepared baking dish.
    • Sprinkle half of the grated Parmesan cheese and half of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top.
    • Add the remaining spaghetti mixture on top, and finish with the rest of the Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses.
  4. Bake:
    • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
    • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Garnish and Serve:
    • Remove the baked spaghetti from the oven and let it cool slightly.
    • Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
    • Serve warm, either as a main dish or alongside a fresh salad or garlic bread.
