Baked Sausage and Mozzarella Casserole
Ingredients:
- 8 Italian sausages (mild or spicy, according to preference)
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the Sausages:
- In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the sausages and cook until browned on all sides but not fully cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
- Prepare the Baking Dish:
- Spread 1/2 cup of the marinara sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
- Arrange the partially cooked sausages over the sauce.
- Add Sauce and Cheese:
- Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the sausages.
- Sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses evenly over the top.
- Season with dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper.
- Bake:
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the sausages are fully cooked and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Serve:
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
- Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.
- Serve hot with crusty bread, pasta, or a side salad.
