Description

These Caprese Garlic Bread Toasts are a delicious twist on the classic Caprese salad, combining toasted garlic bread with fresh mozzarella, juicy tomatoes, and fragrant basil. Drizzled with balsamic glaze, they’re perfect as an appetizer, snack, or light meal. Crispy, cheesy, tangy, and fresh—all in one irresistible bite!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Garlic Bread Base:

  • 1 French baguette or Italian loaf, sliced into 1/2-inch thick pieces

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • Salt, to taste

For the Caprese Topping:

  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced

  • 23 ripe Roma or heirloom tomatoes, sliced

  • Fresh basil leaves

  • Balsamic glaze (store-bought or homemade)

  • Freshly cracked black pepper

  • Sea salt, to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Garlic Bread:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a small bowl, mix softened butter, olive oil, and minced garlic.

  3. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over each slice of bread.

  4. Place the slices on a baking sheet and bake for 8–10 minutes, or until lightly golden and crispy.

2. Add the Caprese Toppings:

  1. Remove the garlic toasts from the oven and immediately top each one with a slice of fresh mozzarella and tomato.

  2. Return to the oven for 3–5 minutes, just until the cheese begins to melt slightly.

3. Garnish and Serve:

  1. Remove from the oven and top each toast with a fresh basil leaf.

  2. Drizzle with balsamic glaze and sprinkle with sea salt and black pepper.

  3. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, rub the toasted bread with a raw garlic clove before adding the toppings.

  • Make your own balsamic glaze by simmering 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar with 1 tbsp honey until thickened.

  • Use cherry tomatoes or heirloom varieties for added color and sweetness.

  • Add a layer of pesto under the mozzarella for a herby kick.

  • Perfect for summer parties, holiday appetizers, or a quick vegetarian snack.
