Cheesy Potato and Sausage Bake
Ingredients:
- 4 cups potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the potatoes: In a large pot, boil the diced potatoes until just tender, about 8 minutes. Drain well.
- Cook the sausage and onions: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sliced sausage and chopped onion until the sausage is browned and onions are tender.
- Combine ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked potatoes, sausage, onions, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Prepare the cheese sauce: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in milk and heavy cream, bringing to a low simmer. Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar and mozzarella cheese until melted and smooth.
- Mix everything together: Pour the cheese sauce over the potato and sausage mixture, stirring to coat evenly.
- Bake: Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden on top.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with chopped parsley before serving, if desired.
