A delicious cheesy scalloped potato dish. Here’s a recipe to recreate this:

Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes

Ingredients:

– 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
– 1 small onion, finely chopped
– 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
– 2 cups whole milk
– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– Fresh thyme (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven:
– Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

2. Prepare the Cheese Sauce:
– In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, and cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
– Stir in the flour and cook for about 1-2 minutes until it forms a paste and turns a light golden color.
– Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
– Remove from heat and stir in 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and black pepper.

3. Assemble the Dish:
– Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in an even layer in the prepared baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
– Repeat with the remaining potatoes and cheese sauce, spreading it evenly over the top layer of potatoes.
– Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top.

4. Bake:
– Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
– Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.

5. Garnish and Serve:
– Let the scalloped potatoes cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh thyme leaves if desired.
