Chocolate Self-Saucing Pudding
Ingredients:
- For the Cake:
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (125ml) milk
- 1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- For the Sauce:
- 3/4 cup (150g) packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup (30g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/4 cups (310ml) boiling water
Instructions:
- Prepare the Cake Batter:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined.
- Spread the batter evenly into a greased 9×9-inch (23×23 cm) baking dish.
- Prepare the Sauce:
- In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar and cocoa powder.
- Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the cake batter in the baking dish.
- Add Boiling Water:
- Carefully pour the boiling water over the top of the entire mixture. Do not stir.
- Bake:
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the center is set and the top looks cake-like.
- Serve:
- Allow the pudding to cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Spoon the pudding into bowls, ensuring each serving has some of the sauce from the bottom.
- Optionally, serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
