Classic Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease and flour a bundt or tube pan.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar:
    • In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add Eggs:
    • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  6. Bake:
    • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool:
    • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Serve:
    • Slice and serve the pound cake plain, or with your favorite toppings like fresh berries, whipped cream, or a simple glaze.
