This easy homemade onion rings recipe makes deliciously crispy golden onion rings with just a handful of ingredients. Perfect to enjoy with grilled burgers, chicken, hot dogs, fish, or anything else you can think of! Try adding them to your burgers, salads and sandwiches for a more filling crunch!

Are you Team French Fries or Team Onion Rings? I like french fries too, but Paul prefers onion rings to any kind of fries and I always steal some from him because I love them too.The onion rings are a treat for us. It’s not an everyday meal, but when we have friends over and grilling burgers, I make a batch of extra-crispy onion rings, bread them, and wait in the fridge so all I have to do is quickly fry them. when we prepare for dinner.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large onions, cut into rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Breadcrumbs or panko for brushing

Instructions:

Prepare the onions:
The onions peel and cut into rings. Separate the rings and store them.

Prepare the dough:
In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and salt.
In another bowl, beat the egg and then add the milk. Mix well.Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a smooth dough forms.
Coat the onion rings:
Dip each onion ring into the batter, making sure it is well coated.
Allow the excess dough to drip off.

Breadcrumb Coating:
Roll the breaded onion ring in breadcrumbs or panko to ensure an even coating. Press the crumbs onto the onion rings to help them stick.Heat oil: . Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).

Fry the onion rings:
Carefully place the breaded onion rings one by one into the hot oil so that they do not run together.
Fry until the onion rings are golden brown, usually 2 to 3 minutes per side.
Drain and serve:
Remove the onion rings from the oil with a slotted spoon and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain off excess oil.

Serve hot:
Serve the crispy homemade onion rings immediately while they are still hot and crispy.Optional: Serve with your favorite sauce such as ketchup, mayonnaise or spicy aioli.
