Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prep Your Pan
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line a rimmed baking sheet (10×15-inch or similar) with parchment paper or foil. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the entire pan.
Step 2: Make the Toffee Layer
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar, stirring constantly.
Once it comes to a boil, let it bubble for about 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens and darkens slightly.
Step 3: Pour & Bake
Carefully pour the toffee mixture over the saltines, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
Bake in the preheated oven for 5–7 minutes — the toffee will bubble and spread over the crackers.
Step 4: Add the Chocolate
Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee layer.
Let sit for 2–3 minutes to melt, then use a spatula to spread the chocolate into an even layer.
Step 5: Top & Chill
Sprinkle with chopped nuts and a pinch of sea salt, if using.
Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until completely set. Once firm, break into pieces and enjoy!
