Fluffy Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk, cold

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  3. Cut in the Butter:
    • Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture.
    • Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add Buttermilk:
    • Pour the cold buttermilk into the flour and butter mixture.
    • Stir gently with a fork until the dough begins to come together.
  5. Knead the Dough:
    • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
    • Knead gently just until the dough comes together, being careful not to overwork it.
  6. Shape and Cut Biscuits:
    • Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
    • Use a biscuit cutter or a round glass to cut out biscuits, re-rolling the scraps as needed.
  7. Bake:
    • Place the biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
    • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
  8. Serve:
    • Serve warm with your favorite jam, butter, or honey.
