French Quarter Pecan Cream Cheese Spread

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cream Cheese Base:
    • In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy.
    • Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly onto a serving plate or dish, creating a thick layer. Set aside.
  2. Make the Pecan Topping:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar, maple syrup (or honey), ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is smooth and the sugar is fully dissolved (about 3-5 minutes).
    • Add the chopped pecans and butter to the saucepan. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the pecans are well-coated and the mixture is bubbly and slightly thickened (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. Assemble the Spread:
    • Pour the hot pecan mixture over the cream cheese layer, spreading it evenly.
    • Allow the spread to cool to room temperature before serving, so the topping can set.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve the French Quarter Pecan Cream Cheese Spread with crackers, sliced baguette, or apple slices.
