German Chocolate Pie

This decadent dessert is the entirety you love about German chocolate cake in one easy-to-make pie! Layers of chocolate custard, flawlessly candy shredded coconut, and salted pecans all in a golden, flaky crust. It’s the best addition to your Thanksgiving table!

PREP TIME: 1 hour 30 minutes
COOK TIME: 20 minutes 
RESTING TIME: 30 
TOTAL TIME: 2 hours  20minutes

INGREDIENTS

1 cooked pie crust in 9” pie pan a deep pan is first-rate for this recipe

Filling

  • 1 ½ cups milk chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ⅔ cups sugar
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 3 cups total milk
  • 4 massive egg yolks
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Topping

  • ⅓ cup brown sugar packed
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • ⅓ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 2 giant egg yolks
  • 1 ½ cups sweetened coconut flakes
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • ⅔ cup salted pecans coarsely chopped

INSTRUCTIONS

Filling

  1. In a microwave, soften the chocolate and butter collectively in 10-15 2d increments, stir till smooth.
  2. In a saucepan combine sugar and cornstarch, whisk in the total milk and cook dinner over medium warmness till thickened and bubbly. Reduce warmth to low and prepare dinner for an extra two minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
  3. In a separate bowl combine a small quantity of warm combination with egg yolks. Once included add the egg yolk mixture to the relaxation of the warm combination in your pan and whisk constantly, bringing to a gentile boil. Mix for two extra minutes, put off from heat.

Topping

  1. In a small saucepan, mix brown sugar, butter, heavy whipping cream, and sweetened condensed milk. Bring combination to a mild boil over medium heat, and stir till sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat.
  2. In a separate bowl whisk egg yolks and a small quantity of warm combination together, as soon as blended add it all returned into the saucepan and return to the stove. Cook for 2-3 minutes on medium heat, continuously stirring till it thickens. Remove from heat.
  3. Add in your vanilla, shredded coconut, and salted pecans. Cool for 10 minutes then pour over the pinnacle of your chocolate filling.
  4. Optional: pinnacle with extra shredded coconut and chopped pecans.
