Homemade Caramel Cake

INGREDIENTS

Cake

  • 2 cups plus two tablespoons sifted all-purpose flour, plus flour for dusting cake pans
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp soda
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Frosting:

  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Dash of salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

 

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 350.Butter and flour two 9-inch cake pans.Sift two cups plus two tablespoons flour and salt into giant bowl.Add sugar and whisk till blended.Combine butter and water in a saucepan.Bring to a boil and pour over the flour and sugar.

Whisk till blended.Add the soda, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla, and whisk till properly blended and smooth.Pour into greased and floured baking pans.Bake for 20-25 minutes, checking cake after about 15.Cake is performed when tester comes out easy however be cautious now not to overcook.Remove pans from oven and permit to cool on a rack for 15 minutes, then flip layers onto parchment protected racks to cool completely.
