  • 5 tablespoons (71g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 cups (390g) bread flour
  • 2 cups (250g) shredded cheddar cheese

Topping:

  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dough: Whisk the warmed buttermilk, water, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Add melted butter, egg, salt, garlic powder, and 1 cup of flour. Mix until combined, then add the remaining flour and knead for 5 minutes until a smooth, elastic dough forms.
  2. First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1.5-2 hours, until doubled in size.
  3. Shape the bread: Punch down the dough, then roll it into a 9×15-inch rectangle. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly across the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Roll the dough into a log, then slice it in half lengthwise. Twist the two halves together and place in a greased loaf pan.
