Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (optional, for brushing)
  • Fresh herbs (optional, for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • Gradually add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
    • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  2. Shape the Dough:
    • Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.
    • Flatten each ball with your hands or a rolling pin into small discs, about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Cook the Flatbread:
    • Preheat a skillet or non-stick frying pan over medium heat.
    • Place the flattened dough discs onto the hot skillet.
    • Cook each side for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown spots appear.
    • If desired, brush the cooked flatbread with melted butter and sprinkle with fresh herbs.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve the flatbread warm, as a side dish or as a base for various toppings.

Tips:

  • For added flavor, mix minced garlic, chopped herbs, or spices into the dough before shaping.
  • These flatbreads can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days and reheated in a skillet or microwave.
