Homemade Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

Krispy Kreme Donuts Recipe (Copycat) – Light, fluffy donuts with a rich, melt-in-your-mouth glaze. It tastes just as good as store-bought Krispy Kremes!

Raise your hand if you’ve ever stood in line for a Krispy Kreme donut. Now raise both hands if you passed Krispy Kreme and had to make a U-turn when you see the green neon sign that says “HOT NOW.” I have to admit that I have done both.Don’t feel guilty about it, I even got in trouble for it.

Yes, I was late for work that day, but guess what? My boss didn’t seem upset after I gave him some Krispy Kreme donuts.

I had to bribe him.

But wait, can you believe they’re still beating me up for this?Even after devouring almost half a dozen. Diary!

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (105°F to 115°F)
  • 1 1/2 cups warm milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup unsalted Butter, melted
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour, more for dusting
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • Oil for frying

For the glaze:

  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4-6 tablespoons of hot water

Instructions:

Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Add milk, sugar, salt, eggs, butter and 2 cups flour. Beat until smooth. Add enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
First dough: Place the dough in a greased bowl and turn once to grease the top.Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Shape Donuts: Pierce the dough. Place on a floured surface; Roll out 1/2 inch thick. Cut out with a floured donut cutter. Place on greased baking sheets.Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
Fry Donuts: Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F. Fry the donuts one at a time until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels. Glaze : Mix the glaze ingredients in a bowl until smooth.Dip hot donuts into glaze; let dry on racks.
Preparation time: 20 minutes Cooking time: 10 minutes Total time: 1 hour 30 minutes
