Honey-Fried Pork Belly Recipe

  • Author: kecha

Description

A harmonious blend of sweet and salty, this honey-fried pork belly is crispy on the outside, tender inside, and coated in a sticky, garlicky glaze that fills your kitchen with irresistible aroma. Perfect over rice or as a bold appetizer!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs (700g) pork belly, cut into bite-sized chunks

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Oil for frying

  • 2 tbsp honey

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp fish sauce (optional)

  • 2 tsp brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or lemon juice

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

  • 1/4 tsp chili flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep the pork belly:
Pat dry and season pork belly pieces with salt and pepper.

  2. Fry:
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry pork until golden and crispy (10–12 minutes). Remove and drain excess fat.

  3. Make the glaze:
In the same pan, reduce heat and add garlic and ginger. Sauté for 1–2 minutes.

  4. Glaze it:
Stir in honey, soy sauce, fish sauce (if using), brown sugar, vinegar, and chili flakes. Let it simmer for 1–2 minutes.

  5. Combine:
Add pork belly back to the pan and toss to coat. Simmer for 3–5 minutes until sauce thickens and clings to the pork.

  6. Finish:
Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve hot!

Notes

  • Double-fry the pork for extra crispiness.

  • Store leftovers in the fridge and reheat in a skillet.

  • Pair with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.

  • Add scallions or cilantro for a fresh finish.
