Who else besides us remembers eating Jezebel sauce (or gravy)?! If you’ve never heard of it, you’re in luck. This thing is crazy and really versatile. But we think it’s great. While its origins and name are unclear, it is unclear exactly how popular this sauce was at any given time, as it can be found in countless cookbooks and its origins date back to the 1950s.Basically, it’s the perfect combination of sweet and tangy sauce, with just the right amount of hot spice thrown in for good measure.
The centerpiece of this dish is apricot jam, and only four other ingredients – Dijon mustard, horseradish, salt and pepper – make it what it is. Once you have a surprisingly sweet and tangy sauce, you can do many things with it. We went the traditional route and topped it with a block of cream cheese because we love the refreshing, creamy taste of cheese, but this Jezebel sauce would also be WONDERFUL poured over baked pork chops or pork chops.
