Growing up, I spent infinite weekends at my Nana’s house. Every Sunday morning, except fail, she would upward shove early and begin her day in the kitchen. INGREDIENTS

  • four eggs
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 half cups granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the filling:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 teaspoons floor cinnamon

For the glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

 

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 baking dish.
2. In a mixing bowl, cream collectively shortening and granulated sugar till smooth. Add eggs one at a time, beating nicely after every addition. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla extract.
3. Gradually add all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix till simply combined.
4. Pour half of of the batter into the organized pan.
5. In a separate bowl, combine brown sugar and floor cinnamon for the filling. Sprinkle this combination evenly over the batter in the pan.
6. Carefully unfold the last batter over the cinnamon filling.
7. Use a knife to gently swirl the batter and filling together, developing a marbled effect.
8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or till a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
9.. While the cake is baking, put together the icing. In a saucepan, soften the unsalted butter over low heat. Stir in powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract till the icing is smooth.
10. When the cake is achieved baking, get rid of it from the oven and poke holes all over the top. Drizzle the icing over the heat cake, spreading it evenly.
