We’ve had chicken sandwiches before, but unless you’re from Ohio – or go there often – you’ve probably never eaten them this way. You see, this isn’t your average chicken sandwich, it’s the Ohio Shredded Chicken Sandwich and it’s about a lot more than just chicken. It’s the kind of food you find at ballparks and potlucks, and while it’s cheap and easy to prepare, it’s the distinctive combination of ingredients that makes it so classic. (And delicious!)

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 pounds skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup chicken stuffing
  • 1 bag crushed Ritz crackers
  • 2 cans (10 ounces each) cream of chicken soup
  • chicken broth or water, as needed
  • Hamburger sandwiches to serve

INSTRUCTIONS

Place the chicken breasts in the slow cooker insert. Pour the soup over it.
Cover and cook over low heat with two forks until the chicken falls apart easily, 3 to 4 hours.
Shred the chicken, then mix with the stuffing and crushed Ritz crackers. Cover and cook until filling and crumbs are soft, about 30 minutes.
If necessary, thin the mixture with chicken stock.
Serve on hamburger buns and enjoy the taste!
