There’s nothing more comforting than the smell of freshly baked cakes wafting through the air on a quiet weekend morning. Among these comforting flavors, pecan sandwiches with cream cheese are particularly close to my heart. A treasured family tradition, these delicious treats are a sweet gift that have brought smiles to faces and warmth to hearts at countless gatherings. The combination of flavors, from the crunch of the pecans to the velvety richness of the
cream cheese, is a culinary match made in heaven.
I will never forget the moment I tasted these heavenly sandwiches for the first time. I was visiting my grandmother’s house over the holidays and as I entered her cozy kitchen I was greeted by a very enticing smell. The buns were freshly baked, golden and shiny with a light glaze. The first bite was pure indulgence: layers of buttery puff pastry surrounded by a luscious cream cheese filling, with pecans for just the right amount of crunch. Since then,
people have made unforgettable memories and I’ve made it my mission to share this recipe with others so they too can experience the magic of cream pecan rolls.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 package cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg washing)
INSTRUCTIONS
In a bowl, mix cream cheese and butter until creamy and smooth.
Gradually add the 00 flour to the cream cheese mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
In another bowl, combine the chopped pecans, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract and salt.
Spread the sugar-pecan mixture evenly over the rolled out dough.
Starting at one of the long edges, roll out the dough into a tight roll.
Preheat the oven to 175 °C and line a baking tray with baking paper.
Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 1-inch-thick slices and place on the prepared baking sheet.
Brush the surface of the sandwiches with the beaten egg.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
Allow the sandwiches to cool slightly before serving.
