Sausage and Cheese Breakfast Casserole
Ingredients:
- 1 pound breakfast sausage
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 4 cups cubed bread (about 8 slices)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup diced bell peppers
- 1/2 cup diced onions
- 1/2 cup diced tomatoes (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and crumbly. Drain any excess grease and set aside.
- Prepare the Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and dry mustard.
- Layer the Casserole: Spread the cubed bread evenly in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the cooked sausage over the bread. Add the diced bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes (if using).
- Add the Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses over the sausage and vegetable layer.
- Pour the Egg Mixture: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the casserole is set and the top is golden brown.
- Serve: Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.
