Sausage Gravy Puff Pie – A Comforting Twist on Classic Biscuits & Gravy
ADVERTISEMENT
If you’re a fan of rich Southern-style sausage gravy and crave something flaky, golden, and utterly satisfying — this Sausage Gravy Puff Pie is your perfect comfort food. Encased in buttery puff pastry and loaded with creamy sausage gravy, this dish is ideal for brunch, dinner, or cold-weather indulgence.
Ingredients You Will Need
-
¼ cup all-purpose flour
-
2 cups milk
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
½ teaspoon black pepper
-
½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
-
1 lb breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)
-
2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
-
1 egg (for egg wash)
-
Fresh parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Sausage
In a skillet over medium heat, brown the sausage until fully cooked. Do not drain the fat — you’ll use it for the gravy base.
Step 2: Make the Gravy
Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir to coat. Cook for 1 minute. Gradually pour in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens into a creamy gravy. Season with salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Step 3: Assemble the Pie
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Place one puff pastry sheet in a greased pie dish or baking pan. Fill with the sausage gravy mixture. Top with the second puff pastry sheet, sealing the edges with a fork. Cut a few slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
Step 4: Bake
Brush the top crust with a beaten egg. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown and puffy.
Garnish & Serve
Let cool slightly, then slice and serve hot. Sprinkle with chopped parsley for a fresh touch. Perfect alongside eggs or on its own!
