Savory Herb and Cheese Scones
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup finely chopped green onions
- 1/2 cup finely chopped parsley
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter for brushing
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Cut in Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add Cheese and Herbs: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, chopped green onions, and chopped parsley until evenly distributed.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg until well combined. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring just until the dough comes together.
- Knead and Shape: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it gently a few times to bring it together. Pat the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick. Cut the circle into 8 wedges.
- Bake: Arrange the wedges on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with olive oil or melted butter. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Cool and Serve: Let the scones cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before serving warm.
