Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
  • 1/2 cup bell peppers, finely diced (use a mix of red, yellow, and green)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry:
    • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to smooth out any creases.
  3. Add the Fillings:
    • Evenly sprinkle the shredded cheese over the entire surface of the puff pastry.
    • Distribute the finely diced bell peppers and chopped green onions on top of the cheese.
    • Sprinkle the Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper evenly over the vegetables and cheese.
  4. Roll and Slice:
    • Starting from one edge, tightly roll the puff pastry into a log, similar to a jelly roll.
    • Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into 1/2-inch thick pinwheels.
  5. Prepare for Baking:
    • Place the pinwheels cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.
    • In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash.
    • Brush the tops of the pinwheels with the egg wash for a golden finish.
  6. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pinwheels are puffed and golden brown.
  7. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the pinwheels to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
    • Serve warm or at room temperature as a delightful appetizer or snack.
