Vinegar Pie Recipe
Ingredients
- Pie Crust:
- 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
- Filling:
- 1 1/2 cups (300g) granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup (60ml) apple cider vinegar
- 1 1/2 cups (360ml) water
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 large eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Prepare the Pie Crust:
- Roll out your pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan.
- Crimp the edges as desired and set aside.
- Make the Filling:
- In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Stir in the apple cider vinegar and water, mixing until smooth.
- Add the butter and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring continuously.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and gradually stir in the beaten eggs, making sure to mix quickly to prevent the eggs from scrambling.
- Return the saucepan to the heat and cook for another 2 minutes while stirring.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Assemble the Pie:
- Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust.
- Smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake the Pie:
- Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown.
- Cool and Serve:
- Allow the pie to cool completely before slicing and serving.
- This pie is delicious on its own or with a dollop of whipped cream.
Tips
- Vinegar: Apple cider vinegar gives a subtle fruity flavor, but white vinegar can be used as a substitute.
- Spices: Adjust the spices to taste; some versions also include a pinch of cloves for added depth.
