-
Milk – ¼ cup
-
Brown sugar – 1 cup
-
Maple syrup – 2 tablespoons
-
Salt – a pinch
-
Confectioners’ sugar – 2 cups
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking trays with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually blend in the buttermilk. Mix in the maple extract, vanilla extract, salt, baking soda, and baking powder until fully incorporated.
Step 2: Finish Dough and Bake
Gradually add half of the flour, mixing until combined, then add the remaining flour until a smooth dough forms. Drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking trays, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 6–8 minutes, just until the edges are lightly golden. Allow the cookies to cool on the tray for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 3: Make the Maple Icing
In a saucepan over medium-high heat, melt the butter and brown sugar, stirring constantly. Add the milk, maple syrup, and a pinch of salt, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool for 10–15 minutes. Gradually beat in the confectioners’ sugar until smooth and spreadable. If needed, add a drop or two of milk to thin the icing.
Step 4: Frost and Store
Quickly spread the icing over the cooled cookies, as it sets fast. Once set, store the cookies in an airtight container until ready to serve.
Conclusion
These Maple Cookies with Maple Icing are soft, sweet, and full of comforting maple flavor. With their tender texture and rich, glossy icing, they’re perfect for holiday gatherings, cookie exchanges, or cozy afternoons with a cup of coffee or tea. One bite, and they’re sure to become a seasonal favorite in your home.
