Ingredients:
- Bread Pudding:
- 6 cups cubed day-old bread (challah, brioche, or French bread)
- 3 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- Caramel Sauce:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Sweet Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare the Bread Pudding:
- In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread and diced apples.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
- Pour the wet mixture over the bread and apples, and gently stir to combine. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
- Bake the Bread Pudding:
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the pudding is set in the center.
- Prepare the Caramel Sauce:
- In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then stop stirring and let it cook until it turns a golden amber color.
- Remove from heat and carefully whisk in the heavy cream, butter, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
- Prepare the Sweet Glaze:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Serve:
- Drizzle the warm bread pudding with the caramel sauce and sweet glaze before serving.
