How to Make Cherry Bars

Follow these simple steps to create delicious cherry bars from scratch.
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
Step 2: Make the Crust & Base
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Step 3: Combine Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until combined.
Step 4: Assemble the Bars
Spread about ⅔ of the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. Spoon the cherry pie filling over the batter, spreading it out evenly. Drop small spoonfuls of the remaining batter over the cherry filling.
Step 5: Bake the Cherry Bars
Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the bars cool completely before adding the glaze.
Step 6: Prepare the Glaze
In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract (if using) until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed.
Step 7: Drizzle the Glaze
Once the bars have cooled, drizzle the glaze over the top using a spoon or piping bag. Let the glaze set for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
