Ingredients:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ¾ cups shortening
- ½ cup water
- 3 tablespoons white sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons salt
Instructions:
1. In a large bowl, whisk together 4 cups all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons salt, and 3 tablespoons white sugar .
2. Add 1 ¾ cups shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
3.In a small bowl, beat 1 egg and then add it to the flour mixture along with 1/2 cup of water. Mix until the dough forms.
4. Divide the dough into 4 parts (this recipe makes 4 cake layers). Chill in the refrigerator until ready to use.5. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to fit the pie plate.
6. Fill the cake with your favorite cake filling and bake according to the instructions of your cake recipe.
