  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 3 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 cup M&M’s (plus extra for topping)

For the Peanut Butter Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened

  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter

  • 2–2.5 cups powdered sugar

  • 2–3 tbsp milk (adjust for consistency)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

‍ Instructions

Step 1: Make the Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or two 8-inch round pans.

  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, peanut butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

  3. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then add vanilla.

  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  5. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the batter, mixing just until combined.

  6. Fold in the M&M’s gently.

  7. Pour batter into the prepared pan(s) and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  8. Let the cake cool completely before frosting.

Step 2: Make the Peanut Butter Frosting

  1. In a medium bowl, beat together butter and peanut butter until creamy.

  2. Gradually mix in powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth and fluffy.

  3. Adjust consistency by adding more milk or powdered sugar as needed.

Step 3: Frost & Decorate

  • Spread the peanut butter frosting over the cooled cake.

  • Sprinkle with extra M&M’s for decoration and crunch.

Tips & Tricks

  • Use mini M&M’s for better distribution in the batter.

  • Don’t overmix once the M&M’s are added — this prevents color bleed.

  • Swap buttermilk for milk + 1 tbsp vinegar or lemon juice if needed.
