Classic Sugar Cookies
Ingredients:
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- 3 to 4 tablespoons buttermilk
- Extra sugar for rolling
Directions:
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
- Combine: Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Add the buttermilk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough is formed.
- Shape Cookies: Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and roll in sugar. Place onto prepared baking sheets, about 1 1/2 inches apart.
- Bake: Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until lightly browned. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
