Baked Sausage and Mozzarella Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 8 Italian sausages (mild or spicy, according to preference)
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the Sausages:
    • In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
    • Add the sausages and cook until browned on all sides but not fully cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Baking Dish:
    • Spread 1/2 cup of the marinara sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
    • Arrange the partially cooked sausages over the sauce.
  4. Add Sauce and Cheese:
    • Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the sausages.
    • Sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses evenly over the top.
    • Season with dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper.
  5. Bake:
    • Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
    • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the sausages are fully cooked and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  6. Serve:
    • Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
    • Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.
    • Serve hot with crusty bread, pasta, or a side salad.
