Blooming Onion Bites are a pleasant twist on the traditional blooming onion, proposing bite-sized portions of onion that are seasoned, battered, and fried to golden perfection. These bites are accompanied by means of a flavorful dipping sauce, making them an irresistible appetizer or snack.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 massive yellow onions
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- Oil for frying
Dipping Sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp horseradish
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to style
INSTRUCTIONS
Peel and reduce onions into bite-sized pieces.
In a bowl, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
In any other bowl, whisk collectively buttermilk and eggs.
Place breadcrumbs in a 1/3 bowl.
Dip every onion piece into the flour mixture, then the buttermilk mixture, and ultimately the breadcrumbs.
Heat oil in a deep fryer or massive pot to 375°F (190°C).
Fry onion bites in batches till golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
For the dipping sauce: Mix mayonnaise, ketchup, horseradish, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl till smooth.
Notes:
Serve without delay for most crispiness.
Adjust seasoning in the dipping sauce to taste.
